Inhalt:
Marx's economic sociology, as represemed by his major work on Capital, poses the following methodological concerns: first, to discover and formulate through a dialectical application of scientific metbod the general tendency and laws of motion of capitalism in their revolutionary significance for the working dass; and second, to test the basic postulates of historical materialism by explaoining the process of capitalist exchange and distribution in terms of capitalist production. Each of these tasks is conditional upon a third one, namely, to apply the relevant principles of social accounting in an effort to assess the full extent of human exploitation. This involves, on the one band, a dialectical search for the laws goveming the rate and mass of exploitation through the production of surplus value and, on the other hand, an explanation of precisely how the law of value operates, that is, how exploitation within the sphere of production is modified through the process of distribution. There are sympathetic critics of Capital who would measure exploitation by some other standard than socially necessary labor. However, to characterize Marx's method without taking into consideration each of the above interrelated tasks is tantamount to missing the full revolutionary impact of his work. (Schluss)
