In his contribution the author, and experienced social scientist, discusses basic features of poverty today under empirical, historical, sociological, and practical aspects. Given insight views on poverty in current Germany in his introduction, Richard Albrecht goes the way from the historical pauperism (as thorougly analyzed by Karl Marx, and by Rosa Luxemburg, too) via the reflexive sociological dimension with its paradox view on poverty to the basic concept of precarity and its practical relevancy for societal development in advanced capitalist societies under the auspices of neo-liberalist economy, culture, and ideology. Interested in overcoming the societal destructivity of basic capitalist structures, in his outlook the author recalls the culture-of-poverty-thesis.
